Disclosed herein is a cart for transporting an article, comprising an article support bed, the support bed having a first end and a second end opposite thereto. A first wheel assembly is attached to the first end and lifting means is provided for engaging the second end and transferring the bed from a lower floor engaging position for loading an article to an upper position for transporting the article, wherein the support bed has a upper article receiving surface defining an upper plane. The first wheel assembly includes a pair of wheels which are positioned to interrupt the upper plane, and barrier means for inhibiting contact between the article and the wheels of the first wheel assembly.
