A carton feeder assembly (16) is positioned substantially at the infeed conveyor level and includes a carton supply assembly (11), a carton selector (12), a carton opener (13), and a carton erector (14). The carton supply assembly has a carton supply position (8), a carton holding position (40), and a carton selecting position (44). The carton selector includes a pair of feeder wheels (50, 51) with corresponding suction devices (52). The carton opener (13) includes a vacuum belt (90) which applies suction to one surface of the selected carton as a carton opening wheel (101) applies a suction to a second side of the selected carton.
