ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The disclosure relates to an automatic gun which employs case ejectors for extraction and ejection of the cartridge case from a spent round. The case ejector is also used for arresting the breach block during recoil of the weapon and holding the breech block in an open position so that a new round may be rammed into a final position before actual discharge. The ejector is exposed to the round in the process of being rammed into the breech, which round, during its thrust towards the home position in the barrel, entrains the ejector so that the breech block is released and may close with the assistance of a spring means placed under tension during the opening of the breech block. The ejector and the breech block are provided with cooperating arrest and abutment surfaces which take up portions of the kinetic energy of the round while the round is being loaded. A separate buffer device is also con- nected to the ejector that may amplify the above-mentioned retardation/cushioning. By such an arrangement, the feeding and ramming speed of the gun may be increased without the risk that each round will jolt against the rear face of the barrel and disturb the breech block in its closing cycle. Such a disturbance would occasion cease-fire.
