The present invention provides a cartridge thermostat system (100) that permits removal and replacement of the thermostat (130) without removing the housing or coolant manifold (105). In the cartridge thermostat system (100), a coolant manifold (105) is mounted on an engine cylinder head (110). The cylinder head (110) has an engine by-pass (165) and a coolant port (120) for receiving a pilot (115) on the coolant manifold (105). The coolant manifold (105) further comprises at least one thermostat port (175) with an associated cartridge thermostat (130) and at least one passage (170) for appropriate coolant flow. The cartridge thermostat (130) fastens to the thermostat port (175) and operatively positions a plug (155) to the engine by-pass (165) and a sleeve (807) to a coolant passage (180). A wax plug (415) in the cartridge thermostat (130) expands when the coolant is hot and thereby appropriately and simultaneously positions the plug (155) relative to the engine by-pass (165) and the sleeve (807) relative to the coolant passage (180).

Un obturateur en cire (415) incorporé dans le thermostat (130) à cartouche se dilate lorsque le fluide de refroidissement est chaud et positionne ainsi de manière appropriée et simultanée l'obturateur (155) par rapport à la dérivation (165) du moteur et la gaine (807) par rapport au passage (180) pour le fluide de refroidissement.
