A casing has heat-shrinkable ends for use in forming a connection between tubular sections. One or more patches is bonded to a surface of a continuous imperforate portion. Openings may be formed through the patches and through the adjacent wall of the casing, for example for filing the casing with a curable foam composition. The patches facilitate closing of the openings with welded or mechanically attached plugs.
