A method of making a one-piece, unitary lid for a casket comprises pro-viding tooling configured to produce a casket lid having a crown, a pie, a rim and a header, providing settable material, preferably a mixture of wood chips and binder, from which to mold the lid, mold-ing the settable material with the tooling and permitting the settable material to set. The tooling transmits a wood grain pat-tern into the settable material. The wood grain pattern of the lid is continuous when viewed rotated 180° about an axis perpen-dicular to the plane defined by the lid, lo-cated medially of the transverse extent of the lid and coinciding with the header end edge of the lid. Thus two such caps placed end-to-end have a continuous wood grain pattern extending from the head end of the casket to the foot end of the casket. Resin impregnated tissue paper is applied to the settable material prior to molding. The resin impregnated tissue paper conforms to the wood grain and conceals the wood chips.

L'invention concerne un procédé de fabrication d'un couvercle unitaire monobloc de cassette, le procédé consistant à prendre un outillage configuré pour fabriquer un couvercle de cassette comprenant un sommet, un fond, un rebord et une têtière, à prendre une matière capable de durcir, de préférence un mélange de copeaux de bois et de liant, à partir de laquelle on moule le couvercle, à mouler la matière capable de durcir avec l'outillage et à attendre que la matière capable de durcir durcisse. L'outillage confère une configuration de grain de bois à la matière capable de durcir. La configuration de grain de bois du couvercle est continue lorsqu'on la voit en rotation à 180 DEG autour d'un axe perpendiculaire au plan défini par le couvercle, en position médiane par rapport à l'étendue transversale du couvercle et coïncidant avec le bord de la têtière du couvercle. Ainsi, deux couvercles placés bout à bout présentent une configuration de grain du bois continue s'étendant de l'extrémité avant de la cassette à l'extrémité arrière de la cassette. On applique un papier de soie imprégné de résine sur la matière capable de durcir avant de la mouler. Le papier de soie imprégné de résine est adapté au grain du bois et cache les copeaux de bois.
