ABSTRACT A storage system for sound or video tape cassettes and/or tape cartridges is provided. A receptacle contains a plurality of individual cells, each of which is configured to receive a tape unit therein. Each cell is pivotable on a common shaft so that in a first storage position the cell is tilted with respect to a horizontal plane. When a tape is to be selected the cell is pivoted on the shaft to a generally horizontal attitude or second position in which the tape is readily available for removal from the cell, the tape then being out of registry with all other tapes held in the system. sd/
