A cassette for receiving a compact disc has a housing including a base and a cover whereby the cover is pivotably connected with the pivot connection to the base for opening and closing the housing. A plate insert is positioned in the housing and has securing elements for securing at least one compact disc thereat. The base has a rectangular bottom with opposite longitudinal edges. The base has upwardly extending first sidewalls connected to the longitudinal edges. The cover has a rectangular top wall extending parallel to the bottom. The top wall has opposite longitudinal edges with sidewalls connected thereto. The second sidewalls extend downwardly when the housing is closed. The plate insert has a rectangular base plate with opposite longitudinal edges. The rectangular base plate has lateral projections in a plane of the base plate at the longitudinal edges in an area where a compact disc secured at the plate insert is closest to the longitudinal edges. The lateral projections have at least at one side a support wall with an upper edge projecting upwardly past the compact disc secured at the plate insert.
