ABSTRACT A swivel lock device for preventing swiveling of a locking caster, when the brake mechanism of the caster is deployed, and a caster incorporating such device. The device of the subject invention is adapted for use with casters which are inserted into standard tubular leg sockets having a non-circular flange which extend from the bottom of the tubular leg. The subject device comprises a stem and interlocking means for preventing rotation of the stem relative to the socket when the brake mechanism is deployed, comprising a plate secured to the stem of the caster in a non-rotatable fashion, having coupling means for coupling the plate to the outer edges of the socket flange so as to prevent the plate from rotating relative to the socket flange.
