CASTING METAL AROUND AN ANTI-FRICTION BEARING ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A technique is disclosed for casting metal around an anti-friction bearing without damaging the anti-friction bearing, its grease or seal. The bearing is placed in a mold and the mold is closed. Heated liquid metal is injec- ted under pressure into the mold. The mold is opened im- mediately upon solidification of the metal, and the anti- friction bearing with the metal casting around it is ejec- ted. The anti-friction bearing is cooled immediately after its ejection to avoid damage. The resulting casting con- taining a bearing may be a water pump housing for a motor vehicle or an electric motor bearing plate, for example.
