A method for casting metals around an article (14) having a bore extending along a central axis and defined at least in part by an interior cylindrical wall portion (15) utilizes a mandrel (10) having a cylindrical exterior surface portion (23) sized to be slidingly positioned in said bore in close relationship with said interior cylindrical wall portion. The mandrel has an annular groove (26) in which is positioned a canted coil spring (12) with a series of outer contact points (27) extending radially outwardly beyond said cylindrical exterior surface portion (23). The article (14) is moved onto the mandrel (10) to compress the spring (12) and deflect the outer contact points (27) such that the spring (12) imparts an outwardly directed force to the article interior cylindrical wall portion (15) to provide frictional resistance between the spring (12), outer contact points (27) and the interior cylindrical wall portion (15) to retain the article (14) on the mandrel (10) while casting molten metal around the mandrel (10) supported article (14) to form a cast part.
Un procédé pour couler un métal autour d'un article (14) présentant un alésage s'étendant suivant un axe central et défini au moins en partie par une partie de paroi cylindrique intérieure (15) fait appel à un mandrin (10) présentant une partie de surface cylindrique extérieure (23) dimensionnée pour se positionner en coulissant dans ledit alésage, en contact étroit avec la partie de paroi cylindrique intérieure. Le mandrin a une rainure annulaire (26) dans laquelle est positionné un ressort hélicoïdal incliné (12) présentant une série de points de contact extérieurs (27) s'étendant radialement vers l'extérieur au-delà de la partie de surface cylindrique extérieure (23). L'article (14) est déplacé sur le mandrin (10) pour comprimer le ressort (12) et pour défléchir les points de contact extérieurs (27), afin que le ressort (12) exerce une force dirigée vers l'extérieur sur la partie de paroi cylindrique intérieure (15) de l'article, pour assurer une résistance par frottement entre le ressort (12), les points de contact extérieurs (27) et la partie de paroi cylindrique intérieure (15), afin de retenir l'article (14) sur le mandrin (10) lors de la coulée du métal fondu autour de l'article (14) porté par le mandrin (10), pour former une pièce coulée.
