ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A tundish comprising an outer metal casing, a relatively permanent lining of refractory material and an expendable inner lining formed of a set of slabs of re- fractory heat insulating material of a composition comprising refractory filler, binder and fibre is improved by incorpora- ting sufficient carbonaceous material in the slab composition to increase the life of the slabs when exposed to molten metal during casting.
