ABSTRACT A method of making a cast metal structure with sand molds is disclosed. A plurality of rigidized, dry sand slabs are stacked along a predetermined axis. At least the intermediate slabs each have one cope impression in one side and a drag impression in an opposite side. The im- pressions in contacting faces of abutting slabs, when stacked, define casting cavities. An end slab of rigidized dry sand is mated to each exposed impression at opposite ends of the stacked slabs, thereby completing definition of the cavity at such ends. The mated and stacked slabs are secured together as a unitized assembly. Gating channels, in communication with the casting cavities, are provided to convey molten metal thereto. Molten metal is introduced to the channels to fill the casting cavities, providing a cast structure upon cooling.
