Abstract of the Disclosure A casting powder applicator includes a bin for powder and a laterally extending duct having a discharge opening in front, preferably of adjustable cross-section and disposed above a mold cavity; a partition serves as bottom for the bin and for the duct as far as the powder is concerned, but the partition is permeable for gas, possibly at a variable degree of permeability; a plenum chamber under the partition is fed with gas which is forced through the partition to move the powder from the bin into the duct and towards the discharge opening thereof from which the powder falls or flows into the mold cavity underneath at a rate controlled by the slag temperature. The application of gas pressure is controllable and insufficient to cause the powder to be blown out of the discharge opening in a cloud so that flying dust does not develop.
