TITLE CASTING PROCESS FOR PRODUCTION OF METAL MATRIX COMPOSITES INVENTORS Sylvain Caron Jacques Masounave François G. Hamel Gilles St-Amand ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process for producing aluminum-ceramic composites, useful for example as wear-resistant high modulus, low density materials. The process comprises pouring a molten metal over a layer of non-metallic particulate material in a heated crucible having a mixer and a gas-permeable filter at the bottom for introducing or withdrawing gases from the crucible The molten metal layer seals the non-metallic particles, exerts a pressure thereon and facilitates a reduction of oxygen concentration in the particulate material, thereby enhancing the wettability of the material during a mixing of the metal with the particles.
