Catalyst composition comprising titanium chemically bonded to a silica support, characterised in that the silica support is a shaped extrudate of silica powder. The catalyst composition is very useful in the epoxidation of olefins into alkylene oxides using organic hydroperoxides. The composition can be prepared by a process comprising the steps of: (a) extruding silica powder into an extrudate having a selected shape; (b) calcining the extrudate; (c) impregnating the extrudate with a titanium-containing impregnating agent; and (d) drying and calcining the impregnated extrudate.

L'invention concerne une composition catalytique à base de titane lié chimiquement à un support en silice, lequel est un produit d'extrusion formé, constitué de poudre de silice. Cette composition est très utile pour l'époxydation d'oléfines en oxydes d'alkylène au moyen d'hydroperoxydes organiques. La composition peut être élaborée selon le procédé suivant: (a) extrusion de poudre de silice en un produit de forme voulue (b) calcination du produit résultant; (c) imprégnation de ce produit avec un agent d'imprégnation à base de titane; et (d) séchage et calcination du produit ainsi imprégné.
