ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A catalyst for the decomposition of 1,3-dioxanes, comprising calcium oxide, phosphorus pentoxide, chlorine, water and boron oxide with the following ratio of the com- ponents as expressed in mass percent: calcium oxide 48.5 to 53.5 phosphorus pentoxide 42.5 to 46.5 chlorine 0.05 to 1.0 boron oxide 0.005 to 3.0 the balance being water. This catalyst is suitable for the decomposition of 1,3-dioxanes with high efficiency. Also, it possesses an enhanced activity at low operating tempera- tures that are lower than or equal to 300°C.
