Noble-metal particles (30,30...) are deposited on an oxygen-adsorbing/releasing material (20) having the ability to adsorb and release oxygen, and the surface of the oxygen-adsorbing/releasing material (20) is coated with a coating layer (40) comprising a sulfate compound of a metallic element contained in the oxygen-adsorbing/releasing material (20). Thus, a catalyst (1) for exhaust gas purification is obtained. The catalyst (1) for exhaust gas purification thus obtained can prevent the oxygen-adsorbing/releasing material (20) from reacting with a sulfur matter contained in an exhaust gas and forming a new sulfate compound on the surface of the oxygen-adsorbing/releasing material (20). This in turn can prevent the hydrogen sulfide concentration in the exhaust gas from temporarily increasing due to the sulfur matter which has been adsorbed on the surface of the oxygen-adsorbing/releasing material from the exhaust gas.

Selon la présente invention, des particules de métal noble (30, 30...) sont déposées sur un matériau adsorbant/libérant de l'oxygène (20) ayant la capacité d'adsorber et libérer de l'oxygène, et la surface du matériau adsorbant/libérant de l'oxygène (20) est enduite par une couche d'enduction (40) comprenant un composé sulfate d'un élément métallique contenu dans le matériau adsorbant/libérant de l'oxygène (20). On obtient ainsi un catalyseur (1) pour la purification de gaz d'échappement. Le catalyseur (1) pour la purification de gaz d'échappement ainsi obtenu peut empêcher le matériau adsorbant/libérant de l'oxygène (20) de réagir avec un matériau soufré contenu dans un gaz d'échappement et de former un nouveau composé sulfate sur la surface du matériau adsorbant/libérant de l'oxygène (20). Ceci peut en variante empêcher l'augmentation temporairement de la concentration en sulfure d'hydrogène dans le gaz d'échappement due au matériau soufré qui a été adsorbé sur la surface du matériau adsorbant/libérant de l'oxygène (20) provenant du gaz d'échappement.
