Abstract of the Disclosure A phosphonitrile halide catalyst for use in polymerising organopolysiloxanes has the general formula Image wherein X is halogen, M is an element with an electronegativity of from 1.0 to 2.0, R is C1-12 alkyl, n is 1 to 6, v is the valence or oxidation state of M and t has a value of from 0 to v-1. A method for making the catalyst and its use in the polymerisation process of siloxanes especially by condensation is also claimed.
