Abstract of the Disclosure The present invention relates to a catalyst for purification of diesel engine exhaust gas, comprising iron as the active component, as well as to a catalyst for purification of diesel engine exhaust gas, comprising a refractory three-dimensional structure and a catalyst component comprising iron and a refractory inorganic oxide, deposited on the refractory three-dimensional structure. This catalyst can remove, by combustion, harm- ful substances present in diesel engine exhaust gases, such as carbonaceous fine particles, unburnt hydrocar- bons, carbon monoxide and the like even when said gases are at low temperatures, and further can suppress the formation of sulfates from sulfur dioxide when said gases are at high temperatures.
