A catalyst for purifying exhaust gas, comprising a zeolite carrier having a mole ratio of SiO2/Al2O3 of from 20 to 200, and a compound oxide of copper and silicon supported on the carrier. The catalyst has high activity for elimination of nitrogen oxides (NOX) even in the presence of both oxygen and water vapor, and also has excellent durability at high temperatures. The catalyst is therefore effective in eliminating nitrogen oxides from exhaust gases from automobiles, boilers and the like.

Catalyseur pour purifier les gaz d'échappement, renfermant un véhicule de zéolite, avec un rapport molaire SiO2/Al2O3 de 20 à 200, et un oxyde de silicium et de cuivre sur le véhicule comme support. Le catalyseur est très actif pour l'élimination des oxydes d'azote (NOX), même en présence à la fois d'oxygène et de vapeur d'eau; il possède également une excellente durabilité à haute température. Le catalyseur permet donc d'éliminer efficacement les oxydes d'azote dans les gaz d'échappement des automobiles, des chaudières, etc.
