A catalyst for removing carbon monoxide (CO) in a hydrogen rich gas according to a water gas shift reaction is provided. This catalyst includes platinum and rhenium supported as catalyst metals on a rutile titania support. This catalyst provides a high CO conversion at a relatively low reaction temperature between 200 .Zcaron.and 300 .Zcaron. and is excellent in cost/performance due to a reduction in amount of supported platinum. It is preferred that a weight ratio of an amount of supported platinum to an amount of supported rhenium is in a range of 3:1 to 1:1, and particularly 3:2. For example, an apparatus using this catalyst is expected as a hydrogen source for a fuel cell of generating electricity from a reaction between hydrogen and oxygen.

Cette invention a trait à un catalyseur permettant d'extraire du monoxyde de carbone (CO) dans un gaz riche en hydrogène par réaction de conversion à la vapeur d'eau. Ce catalyseur renferme du platine et du rhénium, métaux catalyseurs, que soutient un support au dioxyde de titane. Ce catalyseur, qui assure une haute conversion du CO à une température de réaction relativement basse, comprise entre 200 et 300 ·C, a un remarquable rapport coût /performance dans la mesure où la quantité de platine sur support est réduite. Il est préférable que le rapport pondéral de la quantité de platine sur support /quantité de rhénium sur support soit compris entre 3/1 et 1/1 et qu'il soit, notamment, de 3/2. On attend, par exemple, d'un appareil utilisant ce catalyseur qu'il soit une source d'hydrogène pour une cellule électrochimique produisant de l'électricité à partir d'une réaction entre de l'hydrogène et de l'oxygène.
