ABSTRACT An alkylaromatic hydrocarbon feed stream is hydro- dealkylate in the presence of a catalyst having a reduced rate of deactivation, or a lower coking tendency. The catalyst comprises a gamma-alumina support containing 8 to 12 wt% Cr2O3 and a 0.2 to 0.7 wt% Na2O and having a surface area from 175 to 275 m2/g and a pore volume from 0.5 to 1.2 cc/g. The catalyst is also useful in the hydrodesulfurization of thiophene containing hydro- carbon streams.
