Disclosed is a catalyst having excellent durability and high oxygen-reducing ability, which is not corroded in an acidic electrolyte or at high potentials. Specifically disclosed is a catalyst composed of a titanium oxycarbonitride. The titanium oxycarbonitride preferably has a composition represented by t h e following formula: TiC xN yO z ( wherein x, y and z represent atom-ic number ratios satisfying 0 < x<= 1.0, 0< y<= 1.0, 0.1 <= z < 2.0, 1.0 < x + y+ z<= 2.0 and 2.0 <= 4x + 3y + 2z). The catalyst is preferably used for fuel cells.
L'invention concerne un catalyseur dont la durabilité est excellente et la capacité de réduction de l'oxygène élevée, et qui n'est pas corrodé par les électrolytes acides ou les tensions élevées. Elle concerne spécifiquement un catalyseur composé d'un oxycarbonitrure de titane. L'oxycarbonitrure de titane a de préférence une composition représentée par la formule suivante : TiCxNyOz (dans laquelle x, y et z représentent des rapports atomiques respectant les conditions 0 < x = 1,0, 0 < y = 1,0, 0,1 = z < 2,0, 1,0 < x + y + z = 2,0 et 2,0 = 4x + 3y + 2z). Le catalyseur est de préférence utilisé dans des piles à combustibles.
