A method of manufacturing a cobalt catalyst is described, which comprises the steps of forming an aqueous solution of a cobalt amine complex, oxidising said solution such that the concentration of Co(I11) in the oxidised solution is greater than the concentration of Co(III) in the un- oxidized solution, and then decomposing the cobalt amine complex by heating the solution to a temperature between 80 and 110 ~C for sufficient time to allow an insoluble cobalt compound to precipitate out of the solution. A catalyst intermediate is also described which comprises a cobalt compound, comprising a Co(II)/Co(III) hydrotalcite phase and a Co3O4 cobalt spine) phase, wherein the ratio of cobalt hydrotalcite phase : cobalt spine) phase is less than 0.6:1, said cobalt hydrotalcite phase and said cobalt spine) phase being measured by X-ray diffractometry.
La présente invention se rapporte à un procédé de fabrication d'un catalyseur au cobalt, qui comprend les étapes consistant à former une solution aqueuse d'un complexe cobalt-amine, à oxyder ladite solution de sorte que la concentration de Co(III) dans la solution oxydée soit supérieure à la concentration de Co(III) dans la solution non oxydée, puis à décomposer le complexe cobalt-amine par chauffage de la solution jusqu'à une température comprise entre 80 et 110 ·C pendant un laps de temps suffisant pour permettre au composé de cobalt insoluble de précipiter dans la solution. L'invention se rapporte également à un intermédiaire catalyseur qui comporte un composé de cobalt contenant une phase hydrotalcite Co(II)/Co(III) et une phase de spinelle cobalt Co¿3?O¿4?, composé dans lequel le rapport de la phase hydrotalcite de cobalt à la phase de spinelle cobalt est inférieure à 0,6:1, ladite phase hydrotalcite de cobalt et ladite phase de spinelle cobalt étant mesurées par diffractométrie de rayons X.
