ABSTRACT CATALYSTS A polymerisation process which comprises contacting at least one polar acrylic type or maleimide monomer under polymerisation conditions with a catalyst comprising (i) and (ii): (i) a tetracoordinate organosilicon, organotin or organogermanium initiator having at least one initiating site in which a silicon, tin or germanium atom is bound by a nitrogen or phosphorus atom to a nitrogen- or phosphorus-containing group which is devoid of any reactive hydrogen atom, and (ii) a co-catalyst which is a complex of a) a source of fluoride, bifluoride, cyanide, cyanate, aliphatic or aromatic mono-sulphonate or azide ions or a Lewis acid, which ion source or Lewis acid is available in the polymerisation medium, with b) a complexing agent, and the catalyst and the co-catalyst.
