A B S T R A C T CATALYSTS AND PROCESS FOR THE SELECTIVE HYDROGENATION OF ACETYLENES A catalyst containing palladium and optionally chromium on an alumina support having a surface area of less than 5 m2/g, a Hg pore volume between 0.2 and 0.5 cm3/g and wherein greater than 40% of the pore volume is contained in pores having pore diameters of greater than 10 µm, and a process for the selective hydrogenation of acetylenes in a stream comprising lower olefins by contacting this stream at 50-200 °C with H2 in the presence of this catalyst.
