Abstract of the Disclosure The specification discloses an exhaust apparatus for use with an internal combustion engine containing a catalyst having an active ingredient consisting of perovskite-like manganite of a rare earth element of the composition RE1-XMXMnO3 in which RE is at least an element selected from La, Pr and Nd; M is an element selected from Na, K and Rb and x is 0.1 to 0.4. This catalyst is found to be effective for the removal of nitrogen oxides from exhaust gases
