ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE For the catalytic reaction of 3-methyl pyridine with ammonia and oxygen to 3-cyanopyridine catalysts consisting of compounds of the elements antimony, vanadium and oxygen and at least one of the elements iron, copper, titanium, cobalt, manganese and nickel, the atomic ratio of antimony to vanadium being greater than 1, and containing in addition to these com- pounds layer lattice silicate and highly dispersed silicon dioxide are used. These catalysts are very selective and result in high yields and space time yields.
