CATALYSTS USEFUL FOR PREPARING POLYAMIDES ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A polyamide is produced by polymerizing at least one of an alpha, beta unsaturated carboxylic acid and ammonia, an ammonium salt of an alpha, beta unsaturated carboxylic acid, an alpha, beta unsaturated nitrite and water, a beta-amino pro- pionic acid or alkyl derivative thereof and an alpha, beta unsaturated amide and ammoniua in the presence of a catalyst comprising a pentaammine cobalt (III) complex.
