The invention concerns a catalyst with modified molybdenum oxycarbide base having a specific surface area more than 5 m?2¿/g and improved catalytic activity, in particular in velocity constant, characterised in that it is prepared from molybdenum oxide MoO¿3? with a structure essentially comprising preferentially oriented monocrystalline plates resulting from sublimation condensation. The invention also concerns a method for producing such a catalyst.
