ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention relates to a method of improving the catalytic activity of a freshly made zeolite loaded with gallium ions by first treating with steam and then with hydrogen. Steam and hydrogen treatment may be carried out before or after loading with gallium simultaneously or successively. It has been found that a combination of steam and hydrogen treatments gives high conversions of hydrocarbon feeds and high selectivity to aromatics.
