A catalytic composition based on a cerium oxide and at least one other oxide selected from iron, manganese or praseodymium oxides. The composition may be prepared by forming a liquid mixture containing a cerium compound and at least one iron, manganese or praseodymium compound; precipitating the mixture by heating it or adding a base; recovering the precipitate and calcining it. An alternative method comprises providing a liquid mixture containing a cerium sol and at least one compound of the other element, and proceeding as before. A final method comprises impregnating a cerium oxide with a solution of at least one compound of the other element, and calcining the impregnated cerium oxide. Said composition is useful for controlling H2S emissions in motor vehicle post-combustion catalysis.
L'invention concerne une composition catalytique qui est caractérisée en ce qu'elle est à base d'un oxyde de cérium et d'au moins un autre oxyde choisi parmi les oxydes de fer, de manganèse et de praséodyme. Cette composition peut être préparée en formant un mélange en milieu liquide contenant un composé du cérium et au moins un composé du fer, du manganèse ou du praséodyme; en faisant précipiter le mélange par chauffage ou addition d'une base; en récupérant le précipité et en le calcinant. Un autre procédé consiste à partir d'un mélange en milieu liquide contenant un sol de cérium et au moins un composé de l'autre élément puis à procéder comme précédemment. Un dernier procédé consiste à imprégner un oxyde de cérium avec une solution d'au moins un composé de l'autre élément puis on calcine l'oxyde de cérium imprégné. La composition de l'invention permet de contrôler les émissions d'H2S dans la catalyse de postcombustion automobile.
