In a catalytic converter for cleaning exhaust gases, comprising a housing having an exhaust gas inlet and an outlet and a sintered, porous catalytic body which is self-sustaining and arranged in said housing, said body comprising a mixture of: molybdenum, a molybdenum containing compound, or a molybdenum complex in an amount ranging from 1% to 14% by volume; an active compound for affecting absorption of undesired compounds of said exhaust gases selected from the group of clays, charcoal and carbon, and a refractory component.
