A gas to be desulphurized is contacted with a catalyst containing a catalytic phase associated with a silicon carbide carrier in order to conduct a sulphur-forming reaction between H2S and SO2, and, optionally, a reaction that hydrolyses the COS and CS2 compounds into H2S, at temperatures which, in accordance with the selected implementation method, may be higher or lower than the dew point of the sulphur formed in the reaction gases. The invention is useful for recovering as sulphur H2S and SO2 compounds contained in gases from various sources, such as Claus process gases, and for hydrolysing to H2S the COS and CS2 compounds that the gases may contain.
Le gaz à désulfurer est mis en contact avec un catalyseur constitué d'une phase catalytique associée à un support en carbure de silicium pour réaliser la réaction de formation de soufre entre H2S et SO2 et éventuellement la réaction d'hydrolyse des composés COS et CS2 en H2S, en opérant à des températures qui, selon la mise en uvre retenue, peuvent être supérieures ou inférieures au point de rosée du soufre formé dans les gaz de réaction. Application à la récupération, sous la forme de soufre, des composés H2S et SO2 contenus dans des gaz d'origines diverses, notamment gaz du procédé CLAUS, ainsi qu'à l'hydrolyse en H2S des composés COS et CS2 éventuellement contenus dans ces gaz.
