- 1 - CATALYTIC STEAM REFORMING Abstract of the Disclosure Disclosed is a process for gasifying hydrocarbons through steam reforming in the presence of a catalyst containing 15 - 65% by weight of CaO, 3 - 30% by weight of BaO and 30 - 80% by weight of Al2O3. The catalyst may further contain 3 - 30% by weight of NiO. Also disclosed is a process which comprises a first step of heating a gaseous mixture of hydrocarbons and steam to a temperature of at least 800°C while contacting the gaseous mixture with the above CaO-BaO-Al2O3 catalyst and a second step of bringing the thus-heated gaseous mixture into contact with the above NiO-CaO-BaO-Al2O3 catalyst to reform the hydro- carbons.
