ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A heater device for preheating liquid coolant of an internal combustion engine having an elongate cylindrical heat exchanger with an elongate catalytic heater assembly releasably mounted generally coaxially therein. The heater assembly has a catalytic impreg- nated fibrous material wrapped around an elongate porous ceramic tube with closed ends and an injector which dis- charges vaporized fuel into the interior of the ceramic tube.
