The method of the present invention is for producing at least hydrogen from a gaseous hydrocarbon. The gaseous hydrocarbon is selected from the group consisting of methane, ethane, butane, propane and combinations thereof. The method proceeds by exposing the gaseous hydrocarbon with the supported catalyst to microwave radiation. The supported catalyst has a support of a lattice of a non-metallic amorphous solid and at least one catalytic metal having atoms interspersed throughout the lattice of the support. A preferred embodiment is a lattice of carbon with at least one catalytic metal interspersed throughout the lattice. Examples include char.
L'invention concerne un procédé permettant de produire au moins de l'hydrogène à partir d'un hydrocarbure gazeux, lequel peut être du méthane, de l'éthane, du butane, du propane et une combinaison de ces hydrocarbures. Le procédé consiste à exposer ledit hydrocarbure à une émission de micro-ondes, avec catalyseur supporté. Ce catalyseur comporte un support constitué d'un treillis de solide amorphe non métallique et d'au moins un métal catalytique ayant des atomes intercalés dans tout le treillis du support. En mode de réalisation préféré, il s'agit d'un treillis de carbone comportant au moins un métal catalytique intercalé sur tout le treillis. Le charbon figure parmi les exemples cités dans l'invention.
