The invention is directed to a process for the removal of acetylene during low temperature air separation. In this process, the air is initially compressed, cooled in at least one switch-over heat exchanger and subsequently fractionated in at least one distillation column. In accordance with the invention, acetylene, prior to the entry of the air into the heat exchanger, is catalytically oxidised at a temperature between 70 and 130°C, preferably between 80 and 110°C. Water and carbon dioxide however are substantially removed from the air in the heat exchanger.
Il s'agit d'un procédé permettant d'éliminer l'acétylène durant la séparation de l'air à basse température. L'air est d'abord comprimé et refroidi dans au moins un échangeur thermique à inversion de cycle, puis fractionné dans au moins une colonne de distillation. Avant que l'air entre dans l'échangeur thermique, l'acétylène est oxydé par catalyse à une température se situant entre 70 et 130 degrés C et idéalement entre 80 et 110 degrés C. Par contre, l'eau et le dioxyde de carbone sont essentiellement extraits de l'air à l'intérieur même de l'échangeur thermique.
