A catalytic vent free gas-fired heater includes a primary combustion chamber, a secondary combustion chamber having a catalytic converter for secondarily combusting the products of combustion produced in the primary combustion chamber, a catalytic converter plenum communicating with the exhaust of the catalytic converter for exhausting the catalytic converter outside the heater in a direct manner. A separate room air convection air plenum is provided which rises vertically up the back of a heater and out over the top of the catalytic converter to the front thereof. As the plenums are separated and do not communicate, a blower may be conveniently provided to force air through the room air convection plenum and increase the efficiency of the heater.
