The present invention provides a catheter balloon having an advantageous cone design. In particular, the catheter balloon has at least one cone section with a volume in mm~ such that, when the ratio of one cone volume to the transverse cross-sectional area in mm of the inflated median section is at least about 2.1mm. In certain applications, the advantageous cone design can assist in the preferential expansion of the cone sections prior to any significant expansion of the median section. The balloon can thus advantageously be utilized as a component of a balloon catheter or prosthesis delivery system, also provided via the present invention. When so utilized, the inventive balloon can assist in reducing any shifting of the balloon and/or prosthesis during inflation or delivery, respectively. Methods of utilizing the balloon catheters in dilation procedures, as well as the prosthesis delivery systems to deliver prosthesis, are also provided.
La présente invention concerne un ballonnet de cathéter comportant des sections coniques possédant une conception avantageuse. Ce ballonnet comprend en particulier au moins une section conique possédant un volume en mm?3¿ de telle sorte que le rapport entre le volume de la section conique et l'aire transversale en mm?2¿ de la section médiane à l'état gonflé soit égal à au moins 2,1 mm approximativement. Dans certaines applications, cette conception avantageuse des sections coniques peut favoriser une expansion préférentielle des sections coniques avant une expansion sensible de la section médiane. Ce ballonnet peut ainsi être utilisé de façon avantageuse dans un cathéter à ballonnet ou un système de pose de prothèse, lesquels font également l'objet de la présente invention. Dans ce type d'utilisation, le ballonnet selon l'invention peut contribuer à réduire un éventuel déplacement du ballonnet lors du gonflage et/ou de la prothèse lors de la pose. L'invention concerne en outre des méthodes d'utilisation de ce type de cathéter à ballonnet dans des procédures de dilatation et de ce type de système de pose de prothèse dans des applications de pose de prothèses.
