Disclosed is a catheter driver for use with a flexible, elongated catheter having opposite ends and an intermediate portion and intended for manipulation by a user during insertion of the catheter into the body of a patient. The driver of the invention is constructed for one-handed operation making it easier for the user to guide the catheter into the patient while operating the driver and obviating the need for relinquishing control of the catheter for advancing the driver. The driver includes an elongated body for being gripped by a hand of the user, the body having a longitudinal axis and forward and rear ends; a longitudinally extending recess in the body for slidably receiving the intermediate portion of the catheter; and a lock structure operable by the same hand of the user for locking the intermediate portion of the catheter in the recess to allow application of axial thrust to the catheter.
Est décrit un guide de cathéter pour un cathéter à corps souple, allongé, comportant des extrémités opposées et un élément intermédiaire et destiné à être manipulé par un utilisateur pendant l'insertion du cathéter dans l'organisme du patient. Le guide de la présente invention est destiné à être utilisé d'une seule main, de façon que l'utilisateur puisse guider le cathéter à l'intérieur de l'organisme du patient tout en utilisant le guide et n'ait pas à abandonner le contrôle du cathéter pour faire avancer le guide. Le guide comporte un corps allongé pouvant être saisi d'une main par l'utilisateur, ledit corps a un axe longitudinal et des extrémités distales et proximales; dans ledit corps, un logement s'étendant dans le sens longitudinal permet de recevoir par un mouvement de glissière l'élément intermédiaire du cathéter; et un élément de verrouillage que l'utilisateur peut actionner de la même main afin de verrouiller l'élément intermédiaire du cathéter dans le logement de façon à permettre l'application d'une force axiale sur le cathéter.
