ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A cathode and hanger bar assembly comprising a hanger bar of aluminium or copper having a core of a film-forming metal metallurgically bonded thereto, the aluminium or copper being relieved along the length of the hanger bar to reveal the film- forming metal, and a continuous sheet of a film-forming metal welded along one edge only to at least part of the film-forming metal core. The assembly is particularly useful in copper electrorefining and copper electrowinning.
