The invention concerns a cathode comprising an electrically conductive substrate made of one of the group of elements consisting of titanium, nickel, tantalum, zirconium, nobium, iron and alloys thereof, coated with an intermediate layer of oxides of titanium and of a precious metal and with an outer layer of metal oxides comprising titanium, zirconium and a precious metal. The invention concerns also the use of such cathode for the electrolysis of solutions, notably for the electrolysis of aqueous solutions of alcaline metal chlorides.
