This invention provides a cathode plate assembly and a method of mounting a cover on a cathode plate used for the electrolytic recover or refining of materials by the electrolytic method wherein the cathode plate assembly comprises: a cathode plate of a metal from which deposited metal can be stripped; and a low pressure in-situ-cast cover of a composition cure-hardened by the reaction its ingredients at at least one edge of the cathode plate. The method comprises the steps of: taking a cathode plate; applying moulds to an edge area of the cathode plate to define a casting cavity; filling the casting cavity with a casting composition that flows to fill the cavity and then cure hardens under conditions of low pressure by the reaction of its ingredients; permitting the casting composition to cure harden; and removing the casting mould to leave the cure-hardened composition as a cover on the cover plate.
