ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A cathode ray tube apparatus including an envelope having a panel portion with a phosphor layer formed on the inner surface thereof, a neck portion provided with an electron gun therein, and a funnel portion therebetween, a transparent panel facing the external surface of the panel portion with a spacer therebetween, and a liquid coolant sealed between the panel portion and the transparent panel wherein the coolant absorbs the light other than the main wavelength range emitted from the phosphor layer. Also, a projection type cathode ray tube apparatus including a plurality of cathode ray tubes and optical lens systems, each of the cathode ray tubes having a panel portion with a phosphor layer formed on the inner surface thereof, a transparent panel facing the external surface of the panel, a liquid coolant sealed between the panel portion and the transparent panel, the main emission wavelength of the phosphor layers of the respective panels of at least two cathode ray tubes being different from each other and at least one of the coolants provided in the at least two cathode ray tubes has a dye therein, the color of the dye corresponding to the main emission wavelength of the phosphor layer of the panel of the cathode ray tube.
