ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A cathode starting sheet for the electrode- position of cobalt is disclosed. The starting sheet comprises a sheet of a metal having a naturally formed oxide film on its surface which is provided with a network of substantially rectangular grooves in both of its surfaces for imparting sufficient adhesion of the deposited cobalt to counteract the effects of internal stresses developed in the cobalt deposit.
