Abstract of the Disclosure Cationic azo dyes of formula Image (1) wherein R represents a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl radical, each of R1 and R2 represents hydrogen or a substi- tuted or unsubstituted alkyl or aryl radical, X ? is the charge equivalent of an anion, and wherein the benzene ring A and the pyridine ring B are unsubstituted or substi- tuted , non-ionogenic substituents, and wherein the cationic component does not contain any groups which exhibit acid dissociation in water.
