The invention relates to acrylamide cationic copolymers obtained by a so-called Hofman degradation reaction using an alkaline and/or alkaline-earth hydroxide and an alkaline and/or alkaline-earth hypohalide. The invention also relates to the use of these copolymers essentially as resistance agents for paper and/or coagulation agents. The copolymers are characterised in that they have a desalination coefficient (Cd) higher than 0.6, preferably higher than 0.65, and advantageously higher than 0.7.
