In the growing of cauliflower, the edible curds must be protected from the sun. To protect the curds, the leaves are gathered together and tied at the top. This is done by hand. To mechanize the operation, the new idea involves passing over the rows of the vegetable with a corridor (a horizontal funnel-shaped tunnel) with double-sided walls. The corridor blows forced air through the holes on the inside forcing the leaves upward. Suction devices moving in a circular direction group the leaves together for tying.
